The Career Development Institute (CDI) is the UK-wide professional membership body for the career development sector. Our purpose is to improve and assure the quality and availability of career development opportunities for all, through the development and maintenance of standards of professional practice, the provision of advice to policy makers and practitioners and the promotion of public understanding.

We believe passionately that career development plays a key role in helping people identify the right career goals and develop the career management skills to achieve them. Career development also enables economic growth and social benefits, ensuring a skilled workforce and supporting people into employment and through voluntary or forced job changes.

Membership of the CDI brings a variety of benefits, from access to a wide range of accredited and CPD training and events, to key resources, communities of practice and the support of a professional body. Our memberships range from students to Fellows, ensuring we support all areas of the career development sector.

Editor contract

Career Matters is the highly-regarded quarterly publication from the CDI, covering topics that represent all aspects for careers education, information, advice and guidance. From spotlights on individual career paths and best practice case studies, to features on the latest research and thought leadership, as well as book and resource reviews. A printed version of Career Matters is sent to all UK-based members of the CDI, with an electronic copy available in the members’ section of the CDI website.

The Editor is responsible for the end-to-end publication of the quarterly Career Matters magazine, published in January, April, June and October. From forward planning content for future editions to sourcing, editing and scheduling individual articles, liaising with the editorial board and graphic designer, proofreading, submitting to the printers and signing off the final magazine to be sent on time and to a high standard.

The Editor is supported by the CDI Chief Executive, Head of Professional Development & Standards and other team members to source, write and review articles. The role also works with the CDI’s Business Development Manager who provides advertising and sponsorship content, and with CDI staff to promote key CDI activities and services in the magazine.

As well as managing the printed Career Matters magazine, the Editor will input to the CDI’s digital transformation programme to review existing publishing processes and contribute to discussions on integrating Career Matters into the wider content strategy.
