Freelance Writer
Civitech is a public benefit corporation dedicated to creating a fairer and more equitable democracy by building the tools and infrastructure needed to increase civic participation, empower Democratic candidates to win, and support the success of progressive causes. Since its founding in 2019, almost 400 partners—a range of nonprofit organizations, national political committees, and individual campaigns—have utilized Civitech’s tools to reach tens of millions of voters to help create a more equitable and progressive democracy.
The Freelance Writer will work across multiple channels and teams to write content for our company. You will develop content to expand the company’s reach and generate more interest in Civitech’s products and mission. You will collaborate closely with the VP of Marketing and COO to write sales collateral and proposals, RFP responses, articles, blog posts, and more to support Civitech’s Marketing and Sales operations in the lead up to the 2024 elections. This role will report to the VP of Marketing.

What You Will Do:
- Attend meetings by phone with the Civitech team to understand the tone and message of each project
- Research and understand Civitech products and how they can be used in the progressive ecosystem
- Draft content for outreach emails, social media campaigns, websites, proposals and more as assigned by the VP of Marketing
- Brainstorm and pitch creative and innovative ideas to reach potential clients
About You:
- Stellar writing and editing ability and experience
- Five years or more of professional, political writing experience
- Ability to turn around draft within 48 to 72 hours
- Ability to interact with clients on high level political campaigns and big organizations
- Have a demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion, manage multiple tasks with competing priorities and handle variable workloads
- Enjoy research and information gathering
- Know how to use productivity tools like Google Drive, Excel, Word, and Slack
- Committed to leveraging technology and data products to help Democratic candidates run for office and win, empower progressive causes, and increase civic participation
Classification and Payment:
- Hourly rate of $65-$160; negotiable dependent on location and experience
- Estimated 10-12 hours per week, with number of hours increasing as needed
- You must be eligible to work as a 1099 independent contractor. Civitech is not able to provide visa sponsorship at this time
